Early EPs and Remixes

Given their wilful temperament, it's highly possible Mogwai would sneer at the idea of compiling a personal 'history', probably seeing it as one step away from such bourgeois concepts as a 'career'. For the rest of us, however, these reissues - ostensibly the periphertal releases of a marginal band - prove again just what a strong trail of material Mogwai have left behind them.

Chemikal Underground, their pre-Rock Action label, have taken the opportunity to re-release the 1998 remix album 'Kicking A Dead Pig' and 'EP Plus 6'. The latter features the EPs '4 Satin', 'No Education = No Future (Fuck The Curfew)' and 'EP' (plus, for the technologically able, a load of CD enhancement). 'Superheroes Of BMX' hints at the wheezy desolation of 'Rock Action', the 13-minute static-storm of 'Stereodee' offers the right kind of punishment and 'Xmas Steps' still stands as one of the most complete encapsulations of their noise/silence dynamic.
